Pope Francis’ Easter blessing: May Christ dispel the darkness of our suffering humanity

Vatican City, Apr 12, 2020 / 05:05 am (CNA).- In his Easter blessing, Pope Francis called on humanity to unite in solidarity and look to the risen Christ for hope amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Today the Church’s proclamation echoes throughout the world: ‘Jesus Christ is risen!’ – ‘He is truly risen,’” Pope Francis said on April 12.

Be messengers of life amid death, says Pope Francis at Easter Vigil

Vatican City, Apr 11, 2020 / 03:30 pm (CNA).- Pope Francis urged Christians to be “messengers of life in a time of death” as he celebrated the Easter Vigil in a nearly empty St. Peter’s Basilica amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In his homily April 11, he said: “How beautiful it is to be Christians who offer consolation, who bear the burdens of others and who offer encouragement: messengers of life in a time of death!”

Pope welcomes Turin Shroud livestream for those ‘harshly tried by pandemic’

Vatican City, Apr 11, 2020 / 04:00 am (CNA).- Pope Francis has praised the decision to livestream the exposition of the Turin Shroud on Holy Saturday amid the coronavirus pandemic. 

The Archdiocese of Turin has invited Catholics around the world to pray virtually before the Shroud at 5pm local time April 11.

For centuries, the faithful have venerated the Shroud, which bears the image of a crucified man, as Christ’s burial cloth.

Vatican City, Apr 10, 2020 / 03:50 pm (CNA).- Pope Francis prayed for those who are serving the suffering as he presided at the Stations of the Cross in a deserted St. Peter’s Square on Good Friday evening.

At the conclusion of the Stations, the pope prayed: “O God, eternal light and day without sunset, fill with your goods those who devote themselves to your praise and the service of those who suffer, in the countless places of humanity’s sorrow. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.”

'I am close to the People of God': Pope startles host with call on live TV

Vatican City, Apr 10, 2020 / 01:20 pm (CNA).- “I am close, I am close to you all,” Pope Francis said on Good Friday, making a surprise call-in to a live Italian television program.

“Good evening, Lorena. How are you?” the pope said to the visibly surprised host of a religious show called “A sua immagine” (“In His image”), on Italy’s Rai 1 channel.
