Pope Francis: Prepare to meet the Lord with good deeds inspired by His love

Vatican City, Nov 8, 2020 / 08:40 am (CNA).- Pope Francis said Sunday that it is important not to forget that at the end of one’s life there will be “a definitive appointment with God.”

“If we want to be ready for the final encounter with the Lord, we must cooperate with Him now and perform good deeds inspired by His love,” Pope Francis said in his Angelus address Nov. 8.

UK lawsuit gives details on Vatican’s controversial London building

Washington, D.C. Newsroom, Nov 6, 2020 / 09:00 am (CNA).- A lawsuit filed against the Vatican Secretariat of State by its former investment manager, Raffaele Mincione, includes new details about the Vatican’s investment in a London building.

Filed in June, the suit asks the U.K. High Court to rule Mincione acted in “good faith” in the sale of the building at 60 Sloane Avenue to the Vatican in 2018. 

Details of Schoenstatt founder abuse and coercion allegations emerge

A Church historian has published some details regarding the allegations of abuse made against  Fr. Josef Kentenich, founder of the Schoenstatt ecclesial movement. The movement has rejected claims that its founder engaged in sexual abuse, while in July a German bishops announced that a commission would review the priest’s beatification process.

Newsroom, Nov 5, 2020 / 11:00 am (CNA).- On Thursday morning, the Holy See announced that Pope Francis has removed control of financial affairs and investments from the Secretariat of State, transferring them to the Prefecture for the Economy and APSA. The decision, made in August, is the latest in a series of actions taken by the pope in response to the secretariat’s management of Vatican money.

Pope Francis transfers financial administration out of Secretariat of State

Vatican City, Nov 5, 2020 / 07:00 am (CNA).- Pope Francis has requested that responsibility for financial funds and real estate assets, including a controversial London property, be transferred out of the Vatican’s Secretariat of State.

The pope asked for the management and administration of the funds and investments to be given instead to APSA, which functions as the Holy See treasury and sovereign wealth manager, and also administers payroll and operating expenses for Vatican City.

Vatican Museums to close again amid tightening coronavirus restrictions

Vatican City, Nov 4, 2020 / 08:00 am (CNA).- The Vatican announced Wednesday that the Vatican Museums will close until Dec. 3 as Italy implements further coronavirus restrictions. 

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte signed a decree to close all museums in Italy from Nov. 5 until Dec. 3 in response to the growing number of coronavirus cases in Italy. Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, the Vatican Museums have followed the Italian government’s measures.
