Forgiveness in family has power to rebuild society, Pope says

Vatican City, Nov 4, 2015 / 09:20 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Delivering his Wednesday general audience address a little more than a week after the close of the Synod on the Family, Pope Francis spoke on the role of forgiveness in helping families become a force for the betterment of society.

“The practice of forgiveness not only preserves families from division,” but allows them to aid society in becoming “less evil and cruel,” the Pope said during his Nov. 4 weekly audience address in St. Peter's Square.

Vatican City, Nov 3, 2015 / 05:54 am (Aid to the Church in Need).- Though letting go of yourself and living for others can make you seem weak in the eyes of the world, Pope Francis said that this is the purpose of our lives, and that in the logic of God, it’s what makes us truly victorious.

“Whoever serves and gives, seems like a failure in the eyes of the world. In reality, it is exactly in giving their life that they find it,” Francis said.

Vatican City, Nov 2, 2015 / 09:01 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Two former members of a Vatican commission have been arrested on charges of stealing and leaking information in connection with two soon-to-be released books alleged to contain confidential information surrounding Pope Francis' pontificate.

Msgr. Lucio Angel Vallejo Balda and Francesca Chaouqui were taken into custody after being questioned on Saturday and Sunday by the Vatican Gendarmerie, according to a Nov. 2 statement released by the Holy See Press Office.

Mexican cardinal: Pope Francis to visit Mexico in February

“I have a piece of news that everyone already knows: the Holy Father comes to visit us, and he comes on the afternoon of Feb. 12. So from that day we will receive him with much love,” the cardinal said.

Vatican City, Nov 1, 2015 / 10:57 am (CNA/EWTN News).- The beatitudes are the most direct path toward happiness and holiness, Pope Francis said during Mass on All Saints Day. He urged the congregation to imitate Jesus in walking the difficult, yet rewarding, road to heaven.

The Pope said that the beatitudes make up “the path of holiness, and it is the same path of happiness. It is the path Jesus has taken; indeed, Jesus Himself is this path.”

Saints are contagious examples of everyday holiness, Pope says

In his Nov. 1 Angelus address, the Pope said that a key characteristic of the saints is that they “are examples to imitate.”
