Is this the miracle that could canonize Mother Teresa?

Vatican City, Sep 11, 2015 / 01:20 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- The Vatican is studying the case of a Brazilian man inexplicably cured of brain abscesses – which could be the miracle that leads to the canonization of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

Pope Francis voiced his desire to canonize Mother Teresa during the Jubilee Year of Mercy which will begin on Dec. 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, as a ¨sign of mercy for the world¨ in service to the poor.

Marriage – between a man and a woman – is under attack, Pope Francis says

Vatican City, Sep 10, 2015 / 12:26 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Pope Francis told couples to defend God's design for the family as the union of a man and woman for the procreation of children, and urged them to be merciful to those whose marriages have failed.

Today “the family – as God wants it, composed of a man and a woman for the good of the spouses and also the generation and education of children – is deformed by powerful contrary projects supported by ideological colonization,” the Pope said Sept. 10.

“In a world where media takes a fundamental role, the birth of a new Catholic information service is a big challenge, but it is also a way of showing that the Catholic Church has a lot of energy and enthusiasm,” said Angela Ambrogetti, ACI Stampa editor.

Vatican officially confirms Pope Francis' visit to Africa in November

Vatican City, Sep 10, 2015 / 07:22 am (CNA/EWTN News).- The Vatican today officially announced that Pope Francis will travel to Kenya, Uganda and the Central African Republic in November, a plan informally revealed by the Pope himself this summer.
 
After accepting “the invitation issued by the respective Heads of State and the Bishops,” Pope Francis is scheduled to visit the African continent from Nov. 25-30, a Sept. 10 communique from the Vatican announced.

The Pope's annulment move? It's a good thing, Vatican official says

Vatican City, Sep 10, 2015 / 02:02 am (CNA/EWTN News).- A member of the Vatican council charged with interpreting Church law says the increased role of bishops in the annulment process is a positive step that will ensure the procedure is done responsibly.

Placing a greater emphasis on the role of bishops “will strengthen, and not weaken, the purpose of the process,” Father Cuong Pham told CNA Sept. 9.

Churches, families must be places of welcome, Pope says

Vatican City, Sep 9, 2015 / 07:13 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Pope Francis Wednesday spoke of the bond which must exist between families and the Christian community, stressing that the Church, in following the Gospel, must always keep its doors open.

"Churches, parishes, and institutions whose doors are closed should not call themselves churches,” the Pope said. “They should call themselves museums!”

The Church, in living out the Gospel, must welcome people “with doors open, always,” he said.

Revamped annulment process focuses on speed, role of local bishops

Vatican City, Sep 8, 2015 / 07:34 am (CNA/EWTN News).- In a reformed marriage annulment process Pope Francis has made some significant changes, giving more of a role to the local bishop, dropping automatic appeals, and declaring the process free of charge.

Announced Tuesday, the new process is aimed at streamlining the system for granting annulments out   of concern “for the salvation of souls” while affirming the longstanding Catholic teaching on marriage indissolubility.

Vatican reform of annulment process will be presented tomorrow

Vatican City, Sep 7, 2015 / 01:01 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- The Holy See press office has announced that two motu proprio will be released on Tuesday, both of which concern the reform of the process for the declaration of the nullity of marriage.

The two motu proprio, Mitis Iudex Dominus Iesus (The Lord Jesus, a meek judge) and Mitis et misericors Iesus (Jesus, meek and merciful), will be presented at a noon press conference at the Vatican Sept. 8.
