Proposition 115 asks voters if they want to ban abortion in the state after 22 weeks of pregnancy, unless a mother’s life is threatened. If the ballot measure passes, doctors would face a three-year suspension of their license for performing or attempting to perform an abortion. Women would not be charged with seeking or obtaining an abortion.

Vatican Christmas display to be ‘a sign of hope’ during pandemic

Vatican City, Nov 3, 2020 / 12:00 pm (CNA).- The Vatican announced the details of the 2020 edition of the annual Christmas display in St. Peter’s Square, intended to be a sign of hope and faith in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak.

“This year, even more than usual, the setting up of the traditional space dedicated to Christmas in St. Peter’s Square aims to be a sign of hope and faith for the whole world,” said a press release from the Vatican City Governorate.

Lone director of Vatican's London property has business ties to deal's broker

The Vatican Secretariat of State’s holding company, through which it controls a London property at 60 Sloane Avenue, has only one registered director, an Italian-British architect.

As the London property remains in the headlines, it is not clear how he was appointed to that role, but the architect has business connections to Gianluigi Torzi, who acted as a broker in the Holy See’s purchase of the property.

Vatican bishop: Peter’s Pence not used to cover London investment losses

CNA Staff, Nov 2, 2020 / 01:00 pm (CNA).- A Vatican bishop said Saturday that the Holy See did not use money from Peter’s Pence or the pope’s discretionary fund to cover its losses on a controversial London property.

Bishop Nunzio Galantino, president of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Holy See (APSA), said Oct. 31 that the sum came instead from the Secretariat of State’s reserves.

Pope Francis on All Souls’ Day: Christian hope gives life meaning

“‘Hope does not disappoint,’ St. Paul tells us. Hope attracts us and gives meaning to life …  hope is a gift from God that draws us towards life, towards eternal joy. Hope is an anchor that we have on the other side,” Pope Francis said in his homily Nov. 2.
