Pope Francis dedicates February to prayer for women suffering from violence

Vatican City, Feb 2, 2021 / 12:00 pm (CNA).- Pope Francis has dedicated the month of February to prayer for women who are victims of violence. 

In a video released on Feb. 1, the pope said: “It is shocking how many women are beaten, insulted, and raped … We must not look the other way.”

The pope has invited people to pray for women who suffer from psychological violence, verbal violence, physical violence, and sexual violence.

Vatican cardinal: Protecting Catholic doctrine will ‘always be necessary’

Vatican City, Feb 2, 2021 / 09:00 am (CNA).- The Vatican’s doctrinal chief has emphasized the Catholic Church’s duty to promote and protect her teachings as passed down by the Apostles.

Speaking to Vatican News on Monday, Cardinal Luis Ladaria Ferrer, S.J., prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), noted that “what was called ‘concern for right doctrine’” existed before the CDF was created in 1542 and has its roots in the New Testament.

Pope Francis tells news agency: ‘I look at the US Church with hope’

Vatican City, Feb 1, 2021 / 01:00 pm (CNA).- In a meeting with an American news agency on Monday, Pope Francis expressed hope in the Catholic Church in the United States, which he said has a courageous history.

Speaking to the Rome bureau of the Catholic News Service (CNS) on Feb. 1, the pope called the Church in the U.S. “‘catholic’ in the sense of universal because of immigration. What the Church has done for immigrants is great.”
