A new look into the Vatican's stunning museums

Vatican City, Nov 15, 2015 / 04:01 am (CNA).- Those who haven't made it to the world famous Vatican Museums needn't worry – the Church’s treasures will now come to them through a new DVD series aimed at sharing the small country’s rich patrimony with the world.

“The idea was to do a series of six DVDs that can help those who have seen the Museums as well as those who will never go to understand the patrimony that we have,” Msgr. Dario Edoardo Vigano told CNA.

“I am convinced that Guardini is a thinker who has much to say to the people of our time, and not only to Christians,” the Pope said Nov. 13 at the Vatican's Clementine Hall.

Vatican shocked over Paris terror attacks, calls for global response

Vatican City, Nov 13, 2015 / 06:58 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- After Friday evening's devastating terror attacks throughout Paris that are reported to have claimed over 100 lives, the Vatican voiced its dismay over the events and urged a “decisive” response.

“We are shocked by this new manifestation of maddening, terrorist violence and hatred which we condemn in the most radical way together with the Pope and all those who love peace,” Holy See press office director Fr. Federico Lombardi said in a statement.

“Human beings all over the word today need nourishment. And this nourishment is not just to satisfy physical hunger,” the Pope said in his Nov. 10 video message for the opening of India's 50th National Eucharistic Congress, being held in Mumbai.

Beware the 'idolatry of immanence,' Pope Francis says

Vatican City, Nov 13, 2015 / 01:28 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Pope Francis cautioned against making idols out of earthly things, including our own habits, and stressed that while these will eventually fade away, their Creator is the only thing that will remain.

“This idolatry of being attached to the beauty of the here and now, without (a sense of) the transcendence, we all run the risk of having that. It’s the idolatry of immanence,” the Pope said Nov. 13 during his daily Mass homily.

Vatican launches investigation of journalists who published leaked docs

Vatican City, Nov 12, 2015 / 03:31 am (CNA/EWTN News).- The two Italian journalists who made headlines last week for authoring books on confidential Vatican financial documents are under investigation, and could face criminal charges.

In a Nov. 10 statement, the Vatican announced that journalists Gianluigi Nuzzi and Emiliano Fittipaldi are currently being investigated for publishing the books, which contain leaked information from a former Vatican financial reform commission.

Eat with your family, not with your smartphone, Pope says

Vatican City, Nov 11, 2015 / 05:57 am (CNA/EWTN News).- For Pope Francis the dinner table is a key place to strengthen family bonds and foster a sense of “togetherness,” which he said can often be thwarted by an excess attachment to technology.

“A family that almost never eats together, or that never speaks at the table but looks at the television or the smartphone, is hardly a family,” the Pope said Nov. 11.
