Denver Newsroom, May 14, 2020 / 02:00 am (CNA).- When Jesus rose from the dead three days after the crucifixion, he appeared for 40 days thereafter to his apostles and many of his other followers in his physical, glorified body.

And that glorified body, while it was still recognizable as the man of Jesus, could do some pretty amazing stuff - like walking through walls and suddenly appearing or disappearing.

With major deficits projected, Vatican says Holy See not at risk of default

Vatican City, May 13, 2020 / 02:30 pm (CNA).- The new head of the Holy See’s financial office said Wednesday the Vatican is not at risk of fiscal default, even while reports in the Italian media indicate dire deficit projections for the Holy See.  

Speaking to Vatican Media May 13, Jesuit Fr. Juan Antonio Guerrero Alves said the Holy See is sure to see its deficit grow due to the coronavirus pandemic, but is not in danger of default.

Vatican officials donate salaries to pandemic victims

Vatican City, May 13, 2020 / 11:00 am (CNA).- A cardinal has praised Vatican officials for their “heartfelt response” to his request for donations to those suffering amid the coronavirus crisis.

Cardinal Konrad Krajewski told CNA May 13 that some officials had given the equivalent of a month’s salary, while others had donated two months’ worth of their earnings. 

He said: “There was a great response. It exceeded all of our thoughts.”

Pope Francis says intimacy with Jesus is not just for mystics

Vatican City, May 13, 2020 / 04:30 am (CNA).- Intimacy with Jesus is not something reserved for mystics, Pope Francis said at his morning Mass Wednesday.

Speaking in the chapel at Casa Santa Marta, his Vatican residence, the pope said May 13 that Jesus calls all Christians to form a deep relationship with him.

“It is a relationship of intimacy, a mystical relationship, a relationship without words,” he said.

Vatican backs worldwide interfaith day of prayer and fasting

Vatican City, May 12, 2020 / 12:15 pm (CNA).- On May 14, people of all religious affiliations are called to participate in a day of prayer, fasting, and acts of charity for the end of the coronavirus pandemic.

The worldwide day of prayer is the initiative of the Vatican’s Higher Committee of Human Fraternity, formed in August under the auspices of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.

Pope Francis praises late cardinal’s ‘gentleness of spirit’

Vatican City, May 12, 2020 / 09:30 am (CNA).- Pope Francis has paid tribute to the Italian Cardinal Renato Corti, who died May 12 aged 84.

In a telegram Tuesday, the pope said the cardinal was “animated in all things by a passionate desire to communicate the Gospel of Christ.”

Corti preached the spiritual exercises to the Roman Curia in 2005 in the presence of St. John Paul II, who died later that year.
