Pope Francis makes surprise stop at Vatican unveiling of Our Lady of Aparecida

Vatican City, Sep 3, 2016 / 07:33 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Ahead of his meeting with volunteers Saturday, Pope Francis decided to pop in for the inauguration of a new statue of Our Lady of Aparecida in the Vatican Gardens.

The fact that the statue has been placed in the gardens is significant, since they have not received a new piece of art since 2010.

Vatican City, Sep 3, 2016 / 04:22 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Mercy is not an abstract idea, but is rather expressed in concrete actions of love toward the poor and needy, who in their daily lives walk the same path of Calvary that Jesus did, Pope Francis has said.

“Love is the highest expression of life; it allows us to exist!” the Pope said Sept. 3, speaking to an audience of workers and volunteers of mercy present for a special Jubilee in their honor.

Have the courage to ask for forgiveness, Pope Francis says

Vatican City, Aug 31, 2016 / 07:46 am (CNA/EWTN News).- On Wednesday Pope Francis stressed the importance of having the courage to recognize our sins and ask God for forgiveness, moving forward rather than getting stuck in feelings of shame and rejection.

“How many times do we feel rejected internally because of our sins!” the Pope said Aug. 31, noting that what the Lord tells us in these moments is “have courage, come. For me you are not discarded, have courage.”

Pope Francis creates new Vatican office for integral human development

Vatican City, Aug 31, 2016 / 04:00 am (CNA/EWTN News).- On Wednesday the Vatican announced Pope Francis’ decision to form a new mega-dicastery merging the Vatican offices for Justice and Peace, Migrants, charity and healthcare.

Dedicated to “Promoting Integral Human Development,” the new department – also called a dicastery – was announced in an Aug. 31 communique from the Vatican.
