We will be judged for whether we shared 'our daily bread,' pope says

Vatican City, Mar 27, 2019 / 07:20 am (CNA).- The ‘daily bread’ asked of God in the ‘Our Father’ is for everyone, and Christians will be judged by how well they shared their gifts with those in need, Pope Francis said Wednesday.

“Let’s get this in our heads: food is not private property, but providence to be shared with the grace of God,” the pope said March 27.

Pope Francis to visit three countries in East Africa

Vatican City, Mar 27, 2019 / 05:54 am (CNA).- The Vatican announced Wednesday that Pope Francis will visit the capital cities of the African countries of Mozambique, Madagascar, and Mauritius in September.

From Sept. 4-10, 2019, the pope will travel to Maputo in Mozambique, Antananarivo in Madagascar, and Port Louis in Mauritius.

The visit was accepted at the invitation of the bishops and heads of the respective states, papal spokesman Alessandro Gisotti said March 27.

Founder, editorial board resign from Vatican women’s magazine

Vatican City, Mar 26, 2019 / 06:36 pm (CNA).- The founder and entire editorial board of a women’s magazine published by the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano have quit over claims of control and disagreements about the hiring of women with different editorial views.

Founder and editor of “Women Church World,” Lucetta Scaraffia, told the Associated Press March 26 that L’Osservatore Romano hiring women contributors “with an editorial line opposed to ours” was an effort to “delegitimize us.”

Pope Francis changes canon law for religious who desert the community

Vatican City, Mar 26, 2019 / 09:30 am (CNA).- Pope Francis amended canon law Tuesday to create a new mechanism for dismissing a religious man or woman who has deserted their community.

 

Under the new law, promulgated by the pope in an apostolic letter issued “motu proprio,” superiors can declare a member dismissed ipso facto if they have been illicitly absent from the community for more than a year and cannot be located.

 

Pope Francis: Marriage and family have 'an essential mission'
