Pope Francis: Lasting marriage needs self-gift and Christ's grace

Vatican City, Oct 7, 2018 / 05:05 am (CNA/EWTN News).- A married couple striving to faithfully live out their life-long commitment to each other, need both God’s grace and love that is anchored in self-gift, Pope Francis said Sunday.

"What allows married couples to remain united in marriage is a love of mutual self-giving sustained by the grace of Christ," the pope said Oct. 7.

Speaking off-the-cuff at the end of the gathering Oct. 6, the pope told young people the way to “find themselves” is not by looking in the mirror, but by doing, by “going in search of goodness, of truth, of beauty.”

Church's youngest cardinal points youth synod to God's word

“In the midst of crises and difficulties we need to refer to God’s word because he is a rock to us,” Cardinal Dieudonne Nzapalainga told reporters at an Oct. 6 press conference during the 2018 Synod of Bishops, gathered to discuss young adults, the faith, and vocational discernment.

Pope Francis orders review of Vatican McCarrick files

U.S. youth synod participant wants diocesan-level change

Vatican City, Oct 5, 2018 / 07:46 am (CNA/EWTN News).- A young U.S. Catholic participating in the 2018 Synod of Bishops said he hopes the Vatican meeting is a starting point for implementing change within the local dioceses and for raising the importance of positive Catholic role models.

Caggiano: Youth synod bishops must address sexual abuse crisis

Vatican City, Oct 5, 2018 / 06:06 am (CNA).- Bishop Frank Caggiano of Bridgeport said Thursday that the Church must discuss its sexual abuse crisis if it is to gain the trust of young people.

During his Oct. 4 speech at the 2018 Synod of Bishops, Caggiano said that the Church must “continue to directly address the issue of the sexual abuse of minors and youth by clerics in many regions of the world.”
