Analysis: Benedict XVI’s unpublished letter- God is key to understanding human rights

Vatican City, May 14, 2018 / 11:54 am (CNA).- The Ratiznger Schuelerkreis, a circle of former students of Joseph Ratzinger who meet annually, will gather this year to discuss the themes: “Church and State, Church and Society.” Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI selected the topic, as he does for the group every year.
 
This topic is intimately connected to the content of a recently published book, and above all to a letter – previously unpublished – contained in that book.
 

Pope Francis prays for victims of deadly Indonesian attacks

Vatican City, May 13, 2018 / 06:20 am (CNA/EWTN News).- After multiple bombings at churches in Indonesia left 11 dead dozens more injured, Pope Francis prayed for the repose of the souls of those who died and asked God to bring an end to hatred and violence.

“I am particularly close to the dear people of Indonesia, in a special way to the Christian communities of the city of Surabaya who have been strongly hit by the serious attack against places of worship,” the pope said May 13.

When Blessed Oscar Romero met with Blessed Pope Paul VI

Vatican City, May 9, 2018 / 05:02 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- In June 1978 the Archbishop of San Salvador, Oscar Romero, went to the Vatican to meet with the Bishop of Rome, Paul VI. At that meeting, the Pope encouraged his fellow bishop to help the Salvadoran people “on the basis of a great love.”

The two bishops have since been beatified, and their canonization is expected to take place within the year.
