Archbishop Chaput to youth synod: Developed nations stuck in a 'moral adolescence'

Vatican City, Oct 4, 2018 / 05:09 pm (CNA).- While the idea of being “forever young” can seem appealing, the underdevelopment of morality is a problem in developed nations, Archbishop Charles Chaput of Philadelphia told the Synod of Bishops Thursday.

The answer to this problem is Christ, whom the Church must present more strongly and confidently to young people, he noted in his second intervention to the assembly Oct. 4.

Vatican City, Oct 4, 2018 / 10:30 am (CNA).- Archbishop Charles Chaput told the Synod of Bishops that the confidence to announce the truth of the faith is essential to the Church’s mission, and especially her service to young people.

Chaput delivered his three minute intervention Oct. 4 during the fifteenth ordinary general session of the Synod of Bishops, taking place in Rome and treating the issues of young people, the faith, and vocational discernment.

Youth synod bishop: The world is rich in technology & poor in principles

Vatican City, Oct 4, 2018 / 10:00 am (CNA/EWTN News).- A Polish archbishop participating in the Vatican synod on youth said Thursday that today’s young people have benefited from technological progress, but face a world that is “poorer in principles.” 

Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki of Poznan discussed technology and ethics during his homily at an Oct.4 Mass celebrated at the tomb of St. John Paul II in St. Peter’s Basilica. 

Church can help us find our way, says youth synod participant

Vatican City, Oct 4, 2018 / 09:38 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Young adults are struggling to realize their passion, something to center their lives around, and the Church can help them find meaning, one young synod participant from Vietnam said Thursday.
 
Speaking at a press briefing on the second day of the youth synod, Joseph Cao Huu Minh Tri, 21, said today the idea of “finding your true passion” is a “hot topic,” especially in Vietnam, and is the subject of numerous YouTube videos, seminars, and books.
 

Pope invites bishops to be open to new opinions during synod

Vatican City, Oct 3, 2018 / 10:39 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Pope Francis Wednesday told those bishops and auditors who will be giving short speeches – called “interventions” – at the youth synod, they should feel free to change them up as the dialogue proceeds.

During his opening remarks Oct. 3, the pope said bishops should be open to considering their prepared text a “provisional draft,” which can be added to or edited.
