When terrorism destroys religious cooperation – the Holy See's message to the UN

Vatican City, Apr 20, 2016 / 12:03 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Terrorism in the name of religion is a lie, the head of the Holy See’s mission to the United Nations said last week. 

“In the Middle East, in particular, terrorists must never be allowed to destroy centuries of peaceful co-existence of Muslims and Christians in the region,” Archbishop Bernardito Auza said at the United Nations April 14.

Vatican City, Apr 19, 2016 / 06:09 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Pope Francis has offered his praise to the Jesuits in Italy for their longstanding work with refugees, but asked the foreigners for their pardon on behalf of all who have been closed-minded and indifferent to their plight.

“I was a stranger and you welcomed me,” the Pope said in a video message directed to refugees and workers who help them, calling to mind Chapter 25 of Matthew’s Gospel.

Pope meets Central African Republic's new president

Vatican City, Apr 18, 2016 / 07:52 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Pope Francis on Monday met with the Central African Republic's newly-installed president, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, who was elected to office a few months after the pontiff's visit to the country late last year.

The “warm welcome” offered to the Pope during his visit to the CAR in November was among the topics discussed during the meeting, according to a statement released by the Holy See press office.

Pope Francis sends his greetings to Benedict XVI on his 89th birthday

Vatican City, Apr 17, 2016 / 02:38 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Pope emeritus Benedict XVI celebrated his 89th birthday on Saturday, and received special greetings from Pope Francis.

“I would like to remind you that today is the 89th birthday of Pope Benedict XVI. Pray for him,” Pope Francis said aboard the papal plane April 16.

Francis traveled to meet refugees on the Greek island of Lesbos the same day. He also issued a message wishing his birthday greetings

“I saw much suffering,” the Pope said during his April 17 Regina Caeli address from the Apostolic palace, one day after his visit to the Greek island.

Pope Francis says media misses the real family crisis in coverage of communion and divorce

He suggested the news media had focused too much on the latter issue during the synod and in coverage of his recent document on the family.

The Pope spoke with journalists on his plane flight back from visiting refugees on the Greek island of Lesbos April 16.

Aboard the papal plane, Apr 16, 2016 / 11:09 am (CNA).- Pope Francis on April 16 gave a 25-minute press conference for reporters during his return flight to Rome from Lesbos.

The Pope spoke about the refugee crisis and the global immigration crisis. He spoke of the 12 Syrian refugees, including six children, he was bringing to Italy on the flight.
