Pope Francis: Evangelization must start with encountering Jesus

Vatican City, Nov 30, 2019 / 03:02 pm (CNA).- Pope Francis on Saturday called for a “free and simple Church” which shares the Gospel without worrying about appearance or profit, but is motivated by an authentic encounter with Christ.

“I would like to tell you very simply: the joy of the Gospel comes from the encounter with Jesus,” the pope said.

Pope Francis: The Church seeks truth and healing for wounded marriages

Vatican City, Nov 30, 2019 / 12:00 pm (CNA).- Pope Francis said Saturday that the Church suffers with couples who are in a “wounded marriage,” and seeks their healing in truth.

“The wounds of marriage today – we know – have many and varied causes: psychological, physical, environmental, cultural – at times they are provoked by the closing of the human heart to love, by the sin that touches everyone,” Pope Francis said Nov. 30 in the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace.

Pope Francis visits a local charity in Rome with a message of solidarity

“Vulnerability unites us all. We are all vulnerable,” Pope Francis said Nov. 29 in St. Jacinta Hospitality House, a temporary home for the elderly and homeless.

He also claimed that controversial grants made by the U.S. based Papal Foundation were used to support the hospital's expenses, not to repay its debts.

Pope Francis: Synodality is what the Lord expects of the Church

“Synodality is a style, it is a walk together, and it is what the Lord expects from the Church of the third millennium,” Pope Francis said Nov. 29 in the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace.

Pope names financial supervisor president of watchdog authority

Vatican City, Nov 27, 2019 / 05:37 am (CNA).- Pope Francis Wednesday appointed an auditor and Italian banking consultant as president of the Financial Information Authority (AIF), the Vatican’s internal financial watchdog.

Carmelo Barbagallo, 63, is a consultant in the areas of banking, financial supervision, and the Single Supervisory Mechanism. He was previously head of the banking and financial supervision department of the Bank of Italy.

Pope Francis prays for victims of deadly earthquake in Albania

Vatican City, Nov 27, 2019 / 03:51 am (CNA).- Pope Francis expressed his condolences Wednesday for those who have been affected by or who have died in a devastating earthquake which struck Albania Nov. 26.

At least 25 people have been confirmed dead and more than 600 injured, according to authorities. Searches are continuing for those who are missing in the rubble of collapsed buildings.

Pope Francis: To protect life, love life

Vatican City, Nov 27, 2019 / 02:54 am (CNA).- On Wednesday, Pope Francis reflected on his recent trip to Thailand and Japan, stating that economic and technological success are not what gives someone a good life, but the love he or she has received from God.

“To protect life one must love it,” he said Nov. 27, “and today the grave threat, in the most developed countries, is the loss of the sense of living.”
